Five Benefits of Hiring A Parent Coach

Updated: Sep 6, 2023

Have you ever wondered who hires a parent coach, or what the job of a parent coach really is? I think the beautiful thing about working with a parent coach, such as myself, is the uninterrupted, focused, one-on-one support specifically designed for each client. Some parents hire a coach because they are looking for support with a particular issue or behavior concerning their child. Some individuals hire a coach because they are feeling overwhelmed, or maybe even unsupported for whatever reason; and yet some individuals hire a parent coach simply as a part of their own parenting self-care. There are many reasons for hiring a parent coach, and each family is very different. Here are some of the benefits of working with a parent coach:

  1. Support and guidance: Parenting can be challenging and complex, particularly when faced with specific issues or difficulties like raising neurodivergent children, nurturing children with anxiety, or creating a blended family. As a parent coach my goal is always to provide personalized support and guidance tailored to the individual needs of my clients. I specialize in strength-based parenting. I teach parents how to use their own positive energy to focus on what is already strong and healthy within their family. By knowing your family's strengths, we can use these traits to reinforce specific challenges, implementing positive and effective growth where needed.

  2. Objective perspective: As a parent coach, I provide a family focused and objective viewpoint. I help to assess the situation without emotional attachment and offer insights based on my expertise and experience. I work with parents as a thinking partner. I don’t have all the answers, as you know your family best. I guide parents through a proven process that allows them to dig deep into their own toolbox finding new supportive ways to nurture their child’s specific needs.

  3. Individualized Approach: As a parent coach I assist in developing strategies that are unique to your parenting journey. Coaching sessions are tailored to you and your needs. Each family’s story is very personal and special. This is my favorite part of the process…getting to know you and your story! I specialize in working with families with children and teens who have a variety of learning styles and personalities, such as ADHD, anxiety, learning disabilities, attention issues, social and emotional concerns, ODD, and OCD. I also work with new blended families. My experience as an educator at all stages of development, from kindergarten through high school, gives me a unique understanding that is free from judgment and remains kid-centered and results focused.

  4. Emotional support: Parenting is emotionally demanding; so as a parent coach I offer a safe space for parents to express their concerns, frustrations, and anxieties. Your own self care is a huge part of your parenting journey. I am not a counselor, I am a thinking partner, who is 100% focused on providing empathetic support, validation, and encouragement. When parents feel understood and heard, they feel supported, which ultimately helps to alleviate stress, and naturally supports the family environment.

  5. Immeasurable long-term benefits: The skills and knowledge gained from a parent coach typically has lasting effects well beyond our coaching sessions. I help parents refine their parenting skills, which they will continue to expand and adapt as their children encounter new challenges. An investment in parent coaching will have a positive impact on the parent-child relationship for years to come.
